HORSESHOE PITCHING TOURNAMENT

Horseshoe Pitching will be held each day of the 2008 Iowa State Fair.
All events will take place on 12 outside clay courts east of Pioneer Hall.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Play is governed by the Official Rules of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America.  Contestants will pay scorekeepers $1.00 per game for all NHPA sanctioned events.

Open Singles, Open Doubles, Senior and Amateur events are open to any pitchers from anywhere.  Farmers Championship is open to Iowa pitchers only.  No advance registration is required for these events.  Register day of event.

Championship Events ( * ) require membership in National Horseshoe Pitchers Association.  Advance registration is required.  Deadline is July 24th.  Memberships are available for $25 from Secretary/Treasurer Ron Rowley (address on front). 

Averages will be used to determine class placement in various events.  Players with no average on record may qualify day of event time permitting.  After a game is completed, a player shall go to the next assigned court and prepare one pit for play.  

Method of play in all championship events will be 40-point cancellation or 40-shoes cancellation.  Exceptions are in team and handicap where play will be count-all with number of shoes to be announced the day of event.  Open events method of play will be announced the day of event.  Check entry deadline on each event.  No late entries accepted.
 
 Class 1 Open Singles – Registration fee is $5.  Premiums:  1^st - $10; 2^nd - $8; 3^rd - $7; 4^th thru 6^th - $5, plus ribbons.  All Opens are limited to number of courts available.  Open to all pitchers.  Register day of event.
 
 Class 2 Iowa Amateur Championship – No registration fee.  Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $10; 2^nd - plaque plus $8; 3^rd - $7; 4^th thru 6^th - $5, plus ribbons.  Open to all pitchers.  Register day of event.

* Class 3 Iowa State Handicap Team Championship – Registration fee is $24 per 3-player team.  Teams will play a round robin schedule with the top two playing for the Grand Championship.  Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $60; 2^nd - plaque plus $45; 3^rd - $30; 4^th thru 7^th - $24, plus ribbons.  Grand Championship Team receives traveling trophy plus $60.  Team registration deadline is July 24^th.  Send registration with team rosters to Ron Rowley (address on front).

* Class 4 Iowa State Regional Team Championship – Registration fee is $75 per 3-player team.  Eight teams will play round robin schedule with the Championship Team and places determined by team win-loss record.  Team combined ringer % average cannot exceed 132%.  Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $165 & traveling trophy; 2^nd - plaque plus $150; 3^rd - $135; 4^th - $120; 5^th thru 8^th - $75, plus ribbons.  Team registration deadline is July 24^th.  Send registration to:  Iowa Regional Director, C. * Class 5 Women’s and Junior Championship – Women’s – Registration fee for all classes is $15.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - plaque plus $45; 3^rd - $40; others - $15, plus ribbons.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - $45; 3^rd - $40; others - $15, plus ribbons.  Entry deadline is July 24^th.  Juniors – No registration fee.  Championship Premiums:  plaque for 1^st and 2^nd, plus ribbons.  Other Classes Premiums:  plaque for 1^st, plus ribbons. Register day of event.

 Class 6 Open Doubles – Registration fee is $8.  (Separate classes for men and women, if enough)  Premiums:  1^st - $20; 2^nd - $12; 3^rd - $10; 4^th thru 6^th - $8, plus ribbons.  Open to all pitchers.  Register day of event.

* Class 7 Men’s Iowa State Championship – Registration fee for Championship class (12 man) is $20.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $110; 2^nd - plaque plus $80; 3^rd - $55; 4^th - $45; 5^th - $35; 6^th - $30; others - $20.  Registration fee for all other classes (6 man) is $15.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - $45; 3^rd - $40; others - $15, plus ribbons.  Entry deadline is July 24^th.

  Men’s 30 Ft. Championship – Registration fee for all classes is $15.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - plaque plus $45; 3^rd - $40; others - $15, plus ribbons.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - $45; 3^rd - $40; others - $15, plus ribbons.  Entry deadline is July 24^th.

 Class 8 Seniors’ Iowa State Fair Championship – Men and Women age 60 by the day of Tournament.  Registration fee is $4.  Paid scorekeepers.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $15; 2^nd - $8; 3^rd - $7; 4^th thru 6^th - $5.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $10; 2^nd - $8; 3^rd - $7; 4^th thru 6^th - $5, plus ribbons.  Open to all pitchers.  Register day of event.

* Class 9 Two Player Pro-Am – Registration fee for Championship class is $40 per team.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $125; 2^nd - plaque plus $100; 3^rd - $75; 4^th -$50; 5^th - $40; 6^th - $40, plus ribbons.  Registration fee for all other classes is $30 per team.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $75; 2^nd - $65; 3^rd - $55; 4^th - $40; 5^th - $30; 6^th - $30, plus ribbons.  Teams can be mixed.  (Men, Women, Juniors, 30 or 40 ft. Pitchers)  There can be only one IHHPA member or former member on a team.  An Amateur is one who has not been a member of the NHPA/IHHPA, has not pitched in an IHHPA Sanctioned League or a non sanctioned league.  An Amateur who participates in one Pro-Am will not be eligible to pitch in another Pro-Am.  Registration deadline is July 24^th.  Send $30 registration fee and both players’ information to Ron Rowley (address on front). 

 Class 10 Farmers’ Championship – Registration fee is $5.  (Entrants must farm a minimum of ten acres or be retired farmers.)  Paid scorekeepers.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $15; 2^nd - plaque plus $9; 3^rd - $7; 4^th thru 6^th - $5.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $10; 2^nd - $7; 3^rd - $6; 4^th thru 6^th - $5, plus ribbons.  Open to all Iowa pitchers.  Register day of event.

 Class 11 Doubles State Fair Championship – Registration fee is $8.  Mixed teams allowed.  Choose your partner.  Combined averages cannot be over 100%.  Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $20; 2^nd - $12; 3^rd - $10; 4^th thru 6^th - $8, plus ribbons.  Open to all pitchers.  Register day of event.

* Class 12 Iowa State Fair Midwest Senior Classic – Men and Women age 60 or over day of the tournament.  Mixed 30-40 ft. classes.  Registration fee for Championship Class is $20.  Championship Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $100; 2^nd - plaque plus $75; 3^rd - $50; 4^th - $40; 5^th - $30; 6^th - $25.  (WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN YOU PLAY)  Remaining classes’ registration fee is $15.  Other Classes Premiums:  1^st - plaque plus $55; 2^nd - $45; 3^rd - $40; 4^th - $30; 5^th - $20; 6^th - $15, plus ribbons.  Registration deadline is July 24^th.  Send $15 registration fee to Ron Rowley (address on front).
