IHHPA Membership is for Everyone!

About 15 million enthusiasts enjoy pitching in the United States and Canada in tournaments, leagues, recreation areas and backyards. We invite you to enjoy the benefits of organized league play and tournaments available throughout the state as an Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitchers Association  (IHHPA) member.

Membership Fees

The annual membership fee is $31 for adults ($20 for one adult members living at the same address) and $7 for Juniors (18 & under). This includes the option of receiving the newsletter by mail (which is the same as appears on this website).
Pro-Rated dues will be allowed for an Adult or Junior for a specified period of July 1st through December 31st. The IHHPA dues for this period is waived and the individual will pay only the current NHPA dues amount ( currently $17 for an Adult and $5 for a Junior ). Only individuals who have never been a member of the NHPA is eligible for this Pro-Rated dues period.

Leagues & Tournaments: 

The IHHPA is a State Charter affiliated with the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA).  Membership in IHHPA means you are also a member of the NHPA and entitles you to participate in tournaments throughout the United States. If you would like to join a local league, contact one of the Regional Directors in your area that appears on the Officers page.  For organized tournament participation, there are approximately 60 tournaments a year that you can choose to play in (see “Tournament Scheduleâ€�).

Tournament Format & Procedures: 

• Players participate in Classes with players of equal ability that is determined  by ringer percentages.

• Games are played to either a predetermined number of shoes or points.

• There is usually a morning and afternoon session with each player playing a round-robin schedule with players in his/her Class.

• Tournament Directors forward each player's number of ringers and number of shoes to the State Statistician who will keep a running average is used for the next tournament the player pitches in.

• The tournament entry fee is usually around $10. Scorekeepers are paid 50¢ a game by each player. Prize money is paid to adults from the entry fee. Juniors play free and, for amateur eligibility protection, do not receive monetary awards.

State Championship Qualification

Pitching in three tournaments at the State level qualifies you to pitch in the Iowa State Championship. Pitching four tournaments allows you to pitch in the NHPA World Tournament held in various states each year.
